Then a strange man approaches Gary and offers the money he needs, on one condition: that he kill someone, no questions asked. End one life to save another. Faced with an impossible choice, Gary will now find how far he is willing to go to save his wife. But as the dire consequences of his actions begin to hit home, can he save his own?
This book had me gripped from start to finish at times it’s like a rollercoaster ride with all the ups and downs. My heart was pounding at one stage I even felt myself holding my breath really not sure why I did that. This story is fast paced and puts out the dilemma how far would you go to save someone you love? Gary and his brother Rod run their own sports clothing business although they aren’t doing great owing money to the bank and suppliers. Gary has been married to Beth for almost 20 years and they had been trying to start a family for many years but it just wasn’t happening just as they had given up all hope Beth finds she is pregnant. They are delighted and everything is looking good. Until the day Gary gets the phone call that changes his life forever in more ways than one. Beth has collapsed and has been taken to Hospital, Gary makes a mad dash to be there not knowing what has happened. After some tests the couple are told that Beth has a brain tumour it’s already at stage four and is inoperable. The only treatment they can try is chemotherapy to see if the tumour can be shrunk, but the prognosis is not good 6-12 months. Beth goes through a course of treatment but when this is finished they are told it hasn’t done anything. The only other option is that they try and get on a clinical trial. After looking into this and applying Beth is accepted, but the treatment is in Germany, and it doesn’t come cheap they need £200,000 which is so far out of their reach. Beth has a solid group of friends who are there to support her, along with her sister in law Sarah and they set up a web page trying to raise the money but it is coming in too slow.
Gary gets a phone call from a stranger saying he can get him the money he needs. But at what price? Gary meets the guy on a park bench. He is shown the money and is given 3 days to decide if he will do what the guy wants in exchange for the money! Can he do what is asked of him?
This is a huge choice Gary has to make. But what will his choice be? At what cost! This is a really good thriller and I can highly recommend it. Obviously this is just my opinion and not everyone will agree as we don’t all like the same pace of a book.
