INNOCENT OR GUILTY? You decide.. By A.M.Taylor

Is the right person behind bars?

One morning ten years ago, the town of Twin Rivers changed forever when the body of Tyler Washington was found in the woods. Son of the mayor, star of the high school basketball team – his death struck right at the heart of this tight knit community.

For Olivia Hall, Tyler’s death heralded the start of her own personal nightmare – her twin brother, Than, was arrested for Tyler’s murder. Ten years later, Ethan is still in jail. Olivia is convinced he is innocent, and now, a true crime podcast has taken up his case.

As the podcast digs deeper, secrets, lies and shocking revelations are all uncovered. For the first time, Olivia dares to hope that Ethan May be set free. But if he didn’t kill Tyler, who did?And how far will they go to keep their secrets safe?

I have to say I love true crime podcasts, but then I also binge watch true crime documentaries, there is some sort of fascination in these types of programmes. Perhaps even more so with the American Justice system, as the whole process is so different to the uk. So when I saw that this book had a true crime podcast in it I thought I would give it a go.

At times I found the story a little slow, but that maybe because I do prefer a faster paced story. Ethan and Olivia are identical twins, they have recently turned 18 and are just off to college shortly. They don’t get on that well, seems they have different personalities Olivia is popular at school and has lots of friends and hangs out with the It crowd. Ethan has one friend that he hangs out with.

A party is being held at Olivia’s friends house Jessica Heng, the usual gang seem to be all there, Olivia arrives with her boyfriend Cole. But she leaves before the party ends due to stomach cramps. Ethan arrives home just before 3 am he wasn’t at the party he had been at his friends.

But one of the most prominent and popular boys, as well as the Mayor’s son, Tyler Washington is found dead in the woods. The same woods that Ethan used as a cut through on his cycle ride home from his friends. Ethan is arrested and charged with murder all on the say so of a few people seeing him ride his bicycle through the woods a short time after Tyler had walked in that direction.

This story is told through two different points of view then and now. Olivia has trained to be a lawyer, because of what happened to her twin, they became closer when he was sent to prison, he has been there for 10 years. When Olivia is approached by a couple who do a true crime podcast, Kat Thomas and Ray Mackenzie and the podcast is called shadow of a doubt. They aren’t there to prove whether Ethan is guilty or not guilty, they just want to look at the facts as they find them, and release a weekly podcast on the case. Olivia trails along to some of the interviews but not all, as some do not want to speak with Olivia, as it’s her twin in prison, and everyone believes he is the guilty party. But things start showing up in the investigation, that makes you wonder is Ethan guilty or not? There are other suspects, that the podcasters and Olivia talk to. Lots of new information that wasn’t used at Ethan’s trial. Is the Mayor Maria Washington involved in making sure Ethan went to prison, what about Nick Green, who was best friends with Tyler, and is now the mayors assistant, or Cole Spencer who was Olivia’s boyfriend until that night, he is now living with Tyler’s sister Morgan.

This is a well crafted plot, I enjoyed the podcast bits, I did guess who the killer was before the end of the book. But if you like a slow paced story, that may keep you guessing until the end. This is a good read. Lots of characters some with secrets from that night. Alongside this Olivia is working a criminal case with her boss Karen where a young girl Reid has been accused of murdering a guy she had dated, but when the relationship ended, he continued to harass and stalk her, it so happens her sister Spenser was at the same school as Olivia. Can she actually help out with Ethan’s story? Does she know more of what happened on the night Tyler died.

This book is available to pre order now and is due for release on the 28th September as an ebook and in December as a paperback. I give this book 4 stars out of 4

Thank you to netgalley and Onemorechapter publishers for an ARC of this ebook in exchange for a fair, honest and unbiased review

A. M. Taylor lives and writes in London. When not making up stories, she writes copy for a living and can most often be found drinking coffee, watching Netflix, and trying to keep up with a b=never ending TBR pile. She’s been obsessed with mysteries ever since Nancy Drew first walked into her life and would probably have attempted to become a private detective at some point, if only it didn’t involve actually having to talk to people. She has a cat Domino, ambitions of owning a dog one day, and is as obsessed with My Favourite Murder as you probably are.
