MY REVIEW

The Residents of the gated community of the exclusive Severn Oaks estate are amongst the elite, money, huge houses, privilege, children attend successful public schools, and they are all doing well in their fields of work. At a lavish Halloween party, Erica Spencer had fallen to her death from a tree house, it had been ruled as an accidental death

Everyone seems to have comes to terms with her death and begun to move on with their lives, until at a community event, a Facebook post is put up on the school website, informing the public that there will be a podcast revealing what really happened that halloween night, at the end of all the podcasts the guilty party will be exposed, six people are involved and one of them killed Erica but why?

Initially they think it’s a joke until the first podcast is broadcast, and when the police re open the case, looking at what initially was seen as a simple accident, to suspecting that foul play may have been involved.

Podcasts being as good as they are now and more and more people listening to them this plot line feels very relevent. As you are reading or supposedly listening to the podcasts the tension is ramped up and you are on the edge of your seat. As you read ‘listen’ you are trying to work out the clues and who is most likely to have committed the crime and their motive.

From an enclosed close knit community, with gates surrounding them to keep people out, someone who is within those gates could be a killer. So who is safe the ones inside the gates or the ones outside?

Non of these people are without secrets, but whose secret is worth killing for? Who would want Erica dead?

There are a lot of characters in this book with six husbands and wives add in children, at times it’s difficult to remember who is married to who. Some of the characters were so very shallow but somehow that added to the fun. The storyline flows well, it’s entertaining, cleverly plotted, a good psychological thriller, and who doesn’t like one of those. A good book from Jenny Blackhurst

I give this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I would like to thank #Netgalley and #Headlinepublishers for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest, fair and unbiased review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jenny grew up in Shropshire thinking that authors were rock stars and that she needed to get a real job. After being made redundant she decided to write a book, then another, then another and at some point writing became her job. Someone is Lying is her fifth book and she is now unemployable in any field.
