SNAKES AND LADDERS By Victoria Selman

SYNOPSIS

Psycho meets The Silence of the Lambs

One killer on the loose. Another setting the rules. A profiler caught in the middle.

A serial killer is terrorising London, removing a body part from each victim and leaving in its place a single pink rose.

Dr Vernon Sange, a multiple murderer awaiting extradition, seems to know the culprits identity – but he’ll only talk to profiler Ziba MacKenzie, the woman responsible for putting him away. Though there’s something he wants in return from her. And time is running out.

With one killer whispering in her ear and another running rings around the police, Ziba must play a game in which only her opponent knows the rules, and the forfeit is death.

MY REVIEW

I would first of all like to thank #PigeonholeHQ and #VictoriaSelman and publishers #Thomas&Mercer for letting me read an eARC, of this novel in exchange for an honest, fair and unbiased review.

Where do I start, this is the third book in the series although this can be read as a stand-alone book, I have however purchased the first two books in the series as I want to know more about Ziba and other characters.

This is a fast paced, thoroughly gripping, engaging, novel, I enjoyed reading each stave as it was released each day, not knowing what the characters were going to go through next. What I like is that Victoria Selman has researched real life serial killers and we see little traits of different ones popping up within this novel. I love the dialogue, the suspense, the characters. The last stage will be released tomorrow the 21st November.

I have to say this before I read that final piece, this is one of the most engaging gripping reads I have read in such a long time, if I had had the book in front of me I don’t think I would have stopped. I have to wait until tomorrow to find out the answers, but my head is spinning trying to work out who, is doing what, to say this book has you sitting on the edge of your seat is an understatement I have been so gripped by it. If I had a way of reading tomorrow’s reveal I would have finished it by now. I have an idea that I have it, but to be honest, I could be completely off base.

So if you are looking for a book that will grab you from page one, and keep you guessing all the way through then I really highly recommend this one, the writing is just so engrossing, gripping every turn you think you have it and you don’t. I suggest you go out now, get this book, read it as a stand alone or buy the first two and this one. Because I absolutely guarantee 100% that if you are into serial killers, if you have watched Manhunter on Netflix or any true crime programmes, this writer will be a favourite. I had only read a couple of days staves and had to order the first two books. Victoria Selman is going to the top of my watch out for list as from now.

If I could give this book 10 stars I would but as I only go up to five then it will have to be ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ absolutely gripping.

    1. I was just trying to work out how to message you, this is an absolutely brilliant book, it is book three but can be read alone if you think of Hannibal lector and all different killers, I really can’t express enough how much I have enjoyed this book, it really does keep you hanging on. I immediately purchased the first two as I think the main character Ziba actually caught this serial killer Dr Vernon Sange I was picturing Anthony Hopkins doing his voice. You whizz through it so fast as well because you just want to turn the page. Definitely one of my top books this month. Goes in my top ten for the year as well. It’s out tomorrow.

      1. That’s great thank you for your lovely words. I still need to work on my reviews and word them better, but when I really enjoy a book I want to shout it out if that makes sense. This was just one of those books. ❤️
