I, CONFESS By Alex Barclay

They won’t all live to tell the tale….

Seven friends. One killer. No escape….

A group of childhood friends are reunited at a luxury inn on a remote west coast peninsula in Ireland. But as a storm builds outside, the dark events that marred their childhoods threaten to resurface.

And when a body is discovered, the group faces a shocking realisation: a killer is among them, and not everyone will escape with their lives….

A stand-alone psychological thriller, this story is told from different characters points of view, some in the present some in the past. In the present the group of 7 friends now 46, seem to be full of laughter and friendship, the drinks flow, making them merry, they reminisce, but you know there is some underlying thing lurking in the background.

Who would think of buying an old convent and turning it into a luxury resort and soon to be spa for holidaymakers. In their remote town in Ireland. That’s what Edie and Johnny did. Now Edie wants their friends to see their beautiful resort, she wants to be the perfect hostess, and wants them all to love the place as much as she does.

They hold a private party for their friends, Clare, Laura, Helen, Patrick and Murph, a chance to catch up with each other, a reunion. They had lost a friend Jess who had suffered a horrific fate when they were younger. Each of these characters have layers that are slowly peeled away until they are left bare. The weather takes a turn for the worst, losing power, they are isolated, so no going anywhere, the darkness and bad weather seems to ramp up the tension even more, then a body turns up, and old secrets start to come out. How is the past and present linked? Who is terrorising them? Is one of the group a killer?

The pages are turned fas as you are soon engrossed in the plot, not knowing what twist or turn is coming next. This is one gripping read, a fast paced ride, the suspense, and tension, building throughout the book. Leading you to a great ending, that you just don’t see coming.

A good read , keeping the reader engaged from start to finish.

I give this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
