MY REVIEW
This is the second book in the Kurt Hammer series, Kurt is trying to stay sober, he has managed two months so far. Whilst in Lima he receives an invitation to a meal, although he is unsure who it is from, he wasn’t going to attend, until a driver came to collect him in a very fancy large car, intrigued Kurt goes, when he arrives it’s an old friend from years ago John Fredly. John has done well for himself a very wealthy man. There are other guests at the table, some Kurt recognises some he doesn’t. After finishing the meal John invites them all to follow him up to the top of the pyramid saying you can see many parts of the city from the top, but as John reaches the top he is propelled backwards into Kurt knocking them both over, John is dead shot in the chest! Or has he been shot? Who wanted his friend dead? Why?
The story is told with each chapter giving the date, some are chronological starting from the date John was killed and the following days, but interspersed are occasional other dates going back in time, for either Kurt, or Alessandra.
John’s family don’t trust the police, so ask Kurt to investigate John’s death. He looks at everyone at the meal that night, interviewing each of them. There are other events covered in the story, Frank Hansen a journalist with Aftenbladet a friend and colleague of Kurt’s comes to Lima at Kurt’s request to help him look into it. For me this was an odd thing for Frank to agree to. I couldn’t believe his decision due to events at home!
As Kurt realised who had committed the murder, he gathered all parties together, rather like a Hercule Poirot mystery going round accusing each one until he revealed the person responsible.
A thrilling ride, a fast paced story, I read this in one sitting, it seems wherever Kurt goes, trouble seems to follow, he really was trying to rest, and resist alcohol. I really felt for Frank, I liked how Kurt and Frank worked together.
Check out some of the other reviews from other bloggers on this tour.
I give this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
