MY REVIEW

I started this book late yesterday afternoon and finished it this morning, it’s an action packed, high octane, keeping you guessing read. From the opening pages where we read of a family awaiting their sons return from the services, they are throwing him a surprise party, but nothing goes as planned, a group of mercenaries turn up and wipe out the man’s parents, siblings and his wife, who dies in his arms just as he reaches her.

Next we are in New York, where what looks like a serial killer is running wild, with three dead women so far, with different parts of their bodies removed. The Homicide team struggle at first to find any connections between these women, and who would want them dead. After seeing someone wearing dark clothing at the scenes Sam McCall starts getting a little annoyed, at this person who seems able to creep up and disappear without making a sound.

Then he is there in the Homicide offices talking to the Captain, this is when Sam in introduced to John Steel. There is an instant connection between the two, despite both resisting. There is more at stake here they need to catch this killer. John Steel also has other things on his mind as well as helping the NYPD.

I love the characters in the book, they are all good, relatable, believable to a degree, I mean this is fiction, John Steel is like James Bond, indestructible. But a great character, I like the chemistry between him and Sam. But he is a charmer, with his little flirts with Tina the ME all harmless.

Some of the other characters aren’t as trusting on the team, until Steel proves himself. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and will be moving on to the second book in the series. I hope it is a s engrossing as this one.

The only slight thing I found annoying was a few times too many descriptive words, that really weren’t needed, it didn’t add to the story and could have been edited to have made the story more sharper. When the action is happening it is well done, it’s sort of in between, however this is just my opinion, others may differ, and like the descriptions, whereas I need the plot to be fast, straight in to the story. I know scenes need to be set. But overall a very good storyline and plot.

I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I think if the story had been tighter this would have easily got five stars.
