OUR LITTLE CRUELTIES By Liz Nugent

SYNOPSIS

Three brothers are at the funeral. One lies in the coffin.

Will, Brian and Luke grow up competing for their mother’s unequal love. As men, the competition continues – for status, money, fame, women….

They each betray each other, over and over, until one of them is dead.

But which brother killed him?

MY REVIEW

WOW, another hit book from Liz Nugent. This is just an author that never lets you down. Another great psychological thriller.

The Drumm family, consists of matriarch, Melissa Craig, a selfish and narcissistic show business mother. William the eldest and favourite son, who is a film producer, as well as a mysogynist, not at all a nice person. Brian a mean, grasping, cruel brother to the fragile pop star Luke, making sure that his mental health problems will continue to affect him throughout his life.

The story begins with the funeral of one of the brothers but which one? The story gives the perspective of the brothers lives, events that have happened are laid bare, with a finale which tells the reader which brother is dead? Who is responsible for the death?

The story is told in four parts three parts told by each brother, from childhood, going back and forth in time. The fourth part is back and forth with each brother leading to the incident that causes death.

William and Bryan seem to sail through life, with no morals or scruples, they are selfish, arrogant and entitled as well as very annoying. Luke is more vulnerable, and gets more sympathy than anyone else. A story filled with cruelty, murder, addiction, adultery, mental health issues, rivalry, along with some #MeToo. An engrossing, read.

I give this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a great read.

I would like to thank #netgalley and #PenguinIreland for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest, fair and unbiased review.
