BROKEN STEEL By Stuart Field

Available as ebook or paperback from Amazon.co.uk

MY REVIEW

John Steel is back in NYC. Back working with Detective Samantha McCall where the tension and chemistry between the two is still lingers.

This is Book three in Stuart Fields, John Steel series, and it starts with action. A judge and her husband are having a very loud argument in a restaurant, she leaves but her husband is still arguing with the manager. She crosses the road and stands in an alleyway, not wanting to be seen, it wouldn’t be good for her reputation if she is seen involved in a marital dispute. Just as she decides to go and see if her husband has calmed down, someone is in the alleyway, next thing she is dead. The press and media decide the husband guilty because of the argument, and a witness seeing him leave the alleyway. But was it the husband? 15 years later, he is in his way to a hearing along with 9 other prisoners, but before the transport van carrying them all arrives, the van careens off the road, and crashes, but who is behind the crash? Three prisoners escaped one of them was the judges husband Brian Armstrong.

Sam McCall and her team are called to the site, but then more murders happen, keeping them very busy, but is there something that links these crimes? If so what?

Steel does his usual vanishing acts, and macho stunts and fights, after all it wouldn’t be right if he didn’t. He also always seems to turn up at the right place at the right time. I enjoy this series, always lots of action, some humour, flirting. This can be read as a stand-alone novel if you haven’t read the first two books, as the author covers what makes Steel the way he is, which was revealed in the first book. I was pleased to see Steel and McCall back working together in this one after book two, Steel was on a cruise ship. This is an entertaining read if you like action. I give this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

SYNOPSIS

After ten years in prison for his wife’s murder, Brian Armstrong is free.

When a freak accident with the prison transport gives him and two others an opportunity to escape, they seize it. With revenge in his heart, Brian disappears into the storm filled city. After an ex schoolteacher is found dead, Detective John Steel is brought in to investigate.

The circumstances are mysterious – just the way Steel likes it. His partner Samantha McCall is convinced the timing between the escape and the death of the teacher are more than coincidence. As they start to investigate, the case becomes more complex than they ever could have imagined. With time running out, can they find the killer and bring him to justice?
