He jumped to his death in front of witnesses. Now his wife is charged with murder.
Five years ago, Erin Kennedy moved to New York following a family tragedy. She now lives happily with her detective husband in the scenic seaside town of Newport, Long Island. When Erin answers the door to Danny’s police colleagues one morning, it’s the start of an ordinary day. But behind her, Danny walks to the window of their fourth-floor apartment and jumps to his death.
Eighteen months later, Erin is in court, charged with her husband’s murder. Over that year and a half, Erin has learned things about Danny she could never have imagined. She thought he was perfect. she thought their life was perfect.
But it was all built on the perfect lie.
This is a gripping book that from the opening will take your breath away. The story is told through the past and present. With multiple points of view, which draw together brilliantly at the end. You won’t want to put this down.
Erin believed she had the perfect life, she had moved to New York from Ireland after a family tragedy. She met and married Danny a police officer. They were happy and life was good. Until that day in front of witnesses he just threw himself over their 4th floor balcony. Why? Eighteen months later Erin finds herself in court for the murder of her husband.
Gradually Erin learns things about Danny that make her question their whole relationship. With very few friends in the USA and the police not talking she feels like she has lost her mind. Could Danny actually be capable of what he is being accused, she needs to find out the truth.
It’s difficult to say much more about this story without giving things away. Needless to say this has a plot that is intriguing and at times confusing in its complexity. But as the twists and turns are gradually revealed everything makes sense. Full of threats, betrayal, anger, obtuse warnings and some lies and outright liars.
Erin is determined to find the truth, despite possible consequences, she is a strong likeable character. Unlike some of the other characters some are likeable but some are really not.
When the truth emerges it is shocking, I love how this author can misdirect the reader on several occasions, you think you have it and then you are just so wrong.
Another well plotted, clever suspenseful story that keeps you hanging on until the end. Jo Spain is becoming a writer you can just rely on to keep you engaged, engrossed and guessing, because things are never always what they seem.
An absolute 5⭐️ read I would like to thank #netgalley and #Quercus books for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest, fair and unbiased review.
