SYNOPSIS

An ex-con-artist on a luxury cruise ship find’s there’s nowhere left to run when someone onboard threatens to expose the terrible secrets of her past….

Charlotte and Sam were partners. In life, and in crime. They never stole from anyone who couldn’t afford it. Wealthy clients, luxury cruise ships. It was easy money, and harmless. At least, that’s what Charlotte tells herself, until the world caved in on her.

But now, years after she tried to put that past life behind her, it comes rushing back when her estranged ex-husband Sam suddenly goes missing – and someone threatens to expose what they did.

Desperate to escape whoever is tormenting her, Charlotte takes a job as events planner for an engagement party onboard a super yacht in the Caribbean. For a while, her plan seems to have worked, nothing but open ocean and clear skies ahead. Until it becomes clear that she’s no longer a thousand miles away from harm.

Because whoever is behind it all is onboard too. And now there’s nowhere left to run.

MY REVIEW

This whole story is told from the point of view of Charlotte, but in two timelines the then and now. Going back to when she first met Sam and how he got her into scamming people on cruises by getting close to them, offering them extra tour services, spinning them different yarns where they managed to get even more money from them whether it be from a sob story or to them getting married. The way Sam said it they weren’t hurting anyone as these people had too much money, so his idea was why should they have it all. But 18 months before the now Sam had double crossed Charlotte, he had set a trap and he had done a runner and had emptied their joint bank accounts. The now was from after those 18 months when she had last seen Sam disappearing off to Mexico.

In the now, Charlotte has set up her own business offering services as an events planner. She is approached by a client who is looking for a planner to help out on a super yacht keeping the people on board entertained as they travelled to the Caribbean. Charlotte had had an interview for the job but wasn’t sure she would get it.

But then the police called at the house she was staying at with an old friend who was kindly helping her out. To ask her is she had heard from Sam as he had been reported missing by his girlfriend, he may be dead. Sam is sure he is still alive and continues to try and contact him. But now she is receiving threatening letters, demanding she pay up what she owes for what she has done. When she is offered the job on the super yacht she jumps at it thinking if she is out at sea she will be safe. Plus Sam has a friend in the Caribbean where she thinks he could be hiding. just one problem she still receives the threatening notes and strange things happening in the yacht. Which means whoever is responsible is on that yacht. Who can she trust?

This is a slow paced read at the beginning gradually building the tension up towards the climactic ending. My only problem was that I didn’t really like any of the characters or should I say the main characters. Sam was just a conman stealing people’s hard earned money. Getting what he could out of them, never knowing when to stop. Charlotte wasn’t quite as bad as Sam as she didn’t want them taking advantage of a couple of the people who she had come to like, but Sam still went behind her back on some of those. But Charlotte didn’t see it that she was doing anything wrong, she didn’t see herself as the same as Sam several times she was saying she was innocent when in fact she wasn’t.

I did guess who was behind it although I wasn’t certain as there are several red herrings thrown in to put you off the scent. This is a good psychological thriller. Well plotted and well written. I have now purchased the authors two previous books after reading this one.

I give this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I look forward to see what the author comes up with next.
