MY THOUGHTS
I normally put a synopsis here saying what the book is about etc. But today I thought I would do this one slightly different. Recently Will was looking for readers who would listen to the audio version of this book whilst also reading it, to check for any mistakes made by the person recording it. I happily volunteered easy enough to do I thought. This is the first book in the Hunter/O’Sullivan trilogy.
The main story of this book is about sex trafficking, paedophiles, I know that some people don’t want to read about this kind of subject, but it’s going on in the world, not just grown women and men but young children being abused because they are vulnerable. It involves a man George Simm who has a travel agency simmtravel, that he does use as a front for some of his sexual gratification. He is Thailand when he is murdered, this sends other men in the group into a tailspin, worrying that he kept information on his laptop about them. With George dead what if someone got hold of his computer and saw their names or worse on the computer. Two of these men we know are Lords.
Kate O’Sullivan is trying to make it as a journalist, she has a young brother who is just coming up to his eighteenth birthday, he is a genius computer guy, he hacks into the CIA and gets information about George Simm, Kate had asked him to see what he could find out about the man, but when George is found dead, murdered in a hotel in Thailand, Kate’s story may be more valuable. She approaches a newspaper that she believes may be interested in the story, and she is right, they are interested and give her a large advance, as well as paying for flights and hotel in Thailand for her and Johnny, for them to look into things a little deeper. Although Johnny looks at it as more of a holiday, and a way of celebrating his 18th birthday as well as the hope of losing his virginity.
Kate didn’t have a clue what she was getting into, she meets with Chief Lee, who is being kept busy by a serial killer who is cutting throats of people involved in the sex industry. One of the dead ran an orphanage, the children are being abused or have been murdered and buried, the person in charge was making a lot of money from the business, Lee finds bodies of children buried near the orphanage.
Doug Hunter used to work for the US highly trained as a killer, but he had gone rogue. He is in Thailand, believed to be dead by the US government. He meets Kate and Johnny and many things happen from there.
I actually enjoyed this book although listening to it and reading it wasn’t as simple as I thought. The audio version is due out sometime in the future once all. The kinks are ironed out. But I liked the main characters Doug, Kate and Johnny. Some of the others not so much but when you are talking about abuse you aren’t’ the meant to like the abusers.
It’s a well written, very gritty story, definitely not for the faint hearted. It really drives home the vulnerability of some. Also the abuse of power, the way these people in power think they are entitled to do whatever they want because they have money. Then to be able to discard the abused when they have finished with them, and find new fresh young faces.
