MY REVIEW
This is the second book in The Hack Trilogy, Hunter/O’Sullivan Adventure. I had the pleasure of listening and reading this book at the same time, as the author is getting ready to release these books in audio format.
Book two didn’t disappoint, it follows on straight from where book one finished, I did a review in October on book one. Although obviously we have some new interesting characters, or crooks, maybe that’s a little kind as these people are just greedy and evil.
The book starts with Kate having just buried her brother, although now even I am wondering if we are going to get a surprise in the final book! Is Johnny still alive? I do wonder if that is a possibility. The Hunter ex CIA turned serial killer, although the people he killed in book one were all paedophiles I know that doesn’t make it right but.. He is watching Kate after falling for her in book one, she is being closely monitored at the beginning by the CIA, The Hunter thinks he has kept track of all who are watching but has he? He gets a surprise when he is set upon by two different agents but who do they work for? He manages to kill one of them and thinks he is safe. But then he wakes and can’t move. Standing over him is the other person who had attacked him and it seems she now has the upper hand. What does she want? Who is her boss, and now his?
Kate goes back to a part of Thailand after a young couple are murdered on the beach. She promises her boss Charles Tandy the editor of The Crusader newspaper she will bring back a story, Gus is out there, she still blames him for the death of Johnny but he apparently has a good lead, but why has no one been able to get hold of him for three days?
The story gets darker as we meet Harry and his millionaire father Sir Michael McMurdoch who are successfully taking over the island they are on. But there is more to these two arrogant men.
We see the highly respected senior police officer from the Royal Thai police, Major General Lee again, he played a big part in book one so it was nice to see him back, he is one of the only officers who is honest and refuses to take a bribe, but he has now been sent, not willingly, to the island that is being practically run by Sir Michael to investigate the death of the young English couple, but arrests have already been made, to Lee it is obvious they are not the killers. But he is blocked every which way he turns. How can he investigate when almost everyone is either afraid or corrupt?
These books are so well written and absolutely gripping all the way through. They are dark and gritty so not suitable if you prefer a cozy mystery. Hard hitting crime with no holds barred but highlighting things that do happen. Will Patching certainly knows how to write. The trilogy is available on Amazon in ebook format and paperback.
I would highly recommend the trilogy, great characters, great plots, exactly what you want in a good book.
I give this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
