SYNOPSIS

Aaron Alexander has just been released from jail after serving eleven years for causing the death of Joshua Moore in a hit-and-run. Now a free man, all he wants to do is stay on the straight and narrow and leave his troubled past behind him.
But for Joshua’s mother Evelyn, eleven years in jail isn’t nearly enough. Consumed by grief and rage, she has been waiting for Aaron’s release, counting down the days until she can exact the revenge he deserves. And now that time has come.
But as Evelyn and her husband Tobias embark on a road trip to track Aaron down, they find themselves caught on two different sides of a gripping game of cat-and-mouse. Because Tobias knows what Evelyn is planning, and he will do anything to save her from herself.
Even if it means protecting the man who killed their son.

Locked in a collision course set in motion eleven years ago, Aaron, Evelyn and Tobias are about to find out whether the road they have chosen leads to redemption . . . or to retribution.

MY THOUGHTS

Jack Jordan has done it again, I could not put this book down, in fact I was a little annoyed when I had visitors as all I wanted to do was read. I was trying to put myself in Evelyn Moore’s spot, how do you react when life is good you have a happy marriage, a 9 year old son, then one night that changes your son is killed by a hit and run driver. I have four grown up children and 5 grandson’s. I know if anything happened to my daughter my world would collapse. What Evelyn struggled with was her son dying on a road alone, I get that completely as an ex nurse we would never leave a patient alone if family wasn’t there someone would be.

Both Evelyn and Tobias, her husband, and father to Joshua, saw the 20 year old who did it sent to jail. But Evelyn hasn’t really grieved, she is holding it in as anger, and that anger is at Aaron Alexander the killer, and she has everything planned for when he is released. This is bottled in for 11 years, the hate, the need for revenge, to take his life because he took her sons. For Tobias he just wants his wife back the woman he fell in love with, but will she ever come back.

When Aaron is released, Evelyn is ready, Tobias is going along in the hope he will be able to stop her, he wants to save Aaron. But what ensues is far from the plans Evelyn set out to do, Tobias hadn’t expected his wife to be the woman he now sees. All the anger and hatred is now at the surface and she just has one focus. She has told Tobias if he gets in her way she will shoot him. But would she be able to go that far?

This is a gripping read from start to finish, with Evelyn hunting Aaron, and Tobias hunting Evelyn, a chain of events leads across the Nevada Dessert, whilst wild fires are burning as well. The story is told in five parts, from the points of view of Evelyn, Tobias and Aaron. With a couple of bits from the past when Evelyn and Tobias had met. Along with losing Joshua.

At first I felt that empathy for Evelyn, then I felt some anger towards her which I didn’t expect, I felt sympathy for both Tobias and Aaron. Towards the end I found myself crying for everyone. When you are rational you know that revenge won’t take away the pain, it will just push it deeper, you won’t feel better for it. But this is Jack Jordan’s trademark now, that moral dilemma. Revenge or Redemption. Could you ever forgive someone for taking away your most precious gift, that of your child, a child who should have had a lifetime to live, to grow.

Whose side would you take a mother? Or the person who killed a child and drove off? This is without a doubt a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me I literally could not put it down. I look forward to what is next. Because this author is on my auto buy list, how could he not be. With a thriller like this.

Thank you so much to @simonschusteruk and @likely_suspects for my gifted copy of this book. I literally squealed as this came through my door. All opinions are my own and have not been influenced in any way.
